Hairlines: A Fusion of Elegance and Functionality

Jorge Filipe Francisco Silva's Award-Winning Hair Salon Design

Unveiling the exquisite design of "Hairlines", a hair salon that marries sophistication with practicality, crafted by the visionary designer Jorge Filipe Francisco Silva. This design, inspired by the elegance of contemporary women and the allure of jewelry, has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019.

The design of Hairlines is a testament to Silva's ability to weave together various elements to create a space that is not only visually appealing but also functional. The salon, marked by its sobriety and refinement, is a harmonious blend of textures and luxury materials that provide clients with a unique and exquisite experience. Copper, a material known for its supreme elegance, was chosen to give character to the interior design, presenting a contemporary look with classic inspiring notes.

The salon's unique properties lie in its strategic use of light and space. A game of lights was used to focus on essential points of the space, conveying a sense of comfort, intimacy, and visual permeability. This allows one to grasp the scale of space and volume of the inner set. The salon is divided into various zones - reception, waiting room, washing area, cutting and styling area, make-up area, and finally the reception zone - each highlighted and differentiated through the contrast of materials used and the type of lighting chosen.

The realization of this design involved the use of copper, wood leaf of pau santo, iron, fabric, lacquered panels, custom furniture, and custom lighting. The glass panels were constructed in iron painted, and the oval lamps suspended from the ceiling were made with copper plates. The mirrors in the cutting zone are suspended by an iron tube where electrical supplies are to the workbench. A light box constructed with leaf ash root and LED ribbon in the backbar area highlights the official cosmetics brand.

The project, carried out between February 2018 and July 2018 in Pacos de Ferreira, Portugal, covers an area of 150 m2. The entire space was air-conditioned and designed with a fan/air extractor for constant air renewal. The heating of sanitary waters is managed through heat pumps of 300 liters each. The design process involved extensive research and client consultation to align the client's requirements with Silva's vision.

Despite the challenges encountered during the project - creating an exquisite and sophisticated architectural space coupled with a functional and practical workspace, planning the suspension of a lamp without resorting to structures, and designing the panels and mirrors - Silva and his team, Joana da Silva Araújo and Tiago Santos, were able to overcome them and deliver a design that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional.

In conclusion, Hairlines is a testament to Jorge Filipe Francisco Silva's ability to create a space that is not only visually appealing but also functional. The design, which has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, is a perfect blend of sophistication, elegance, and practicality, offering clients a unique and exquisite experience.
